Ms. Ruby N. (Wolfe) Jones

Ms. Ruby N. (Wolfe) Jones moved to Oberlin, Ohio as a child and graduated from Oberlin Senior High School. Shortly after, she married Jeff Jones and was the mother of their 6 children.  She attended the Oberlin Business School, where she majored in Business Administration. For 25 years, Ms. Ruby N.Jones was employed in the Oberlin public schools in positions which brought her in daily contact with young students, who came to know her as Ms. Ruby N. Jones. Over those years, she saw a need for those young students to find support and encouragement within the community for their abilities and dreams.  It became her wish to develop some means to see that happen.  When she retired from the Oberlin school system in 1998, with the help of other Oberlin residents and friends, she founded the Oberlin Community Youth Scholarship Fund (OCYSF).  In recognition of her founding of OCYSF, at commencement exercises in 2003 Oberlin College conferred upon Ruby N. Jones the Award for Distinguished Service to the Community.  In 2018, to honor her as founder, OCYSF was renamed the Ruby N. Jones Community Scholarship Fund.  "Ms. Ruby" passed away in January 2018 at the age of 89.
